A Special Invitation
I want to personally share an exciting milestone for The Civics Center — and invite you to be a part of it.
On Wednesday, December 3, I’ll be joining Stanford Social Innovation Review (SSIR) for a live author conversation about my forthcoming cover story, “Getting Youth Engaged in Democracy.” It’s a conversation about democracy and system design, what we’ve learned at The Civics Center, what’s at stake for young people, and what we need to build together.
This is a huge moment for our work. Being invited to headline this kind of national conversation — by a journal like SSIR, in front of an audience of civic and philanthropic leaders — is not just a recognition of our research. It’s a recognition of what you have helped build.
Many people still assume that young voters don’t care about elections. But we know that’s not true. When young people are registered, they vote in big elections at very high rates.
The real issue is structural: Tens of millions of young people aren’t even on the voter rolls. And that gap isn’t accidental. It’s baked into the design of how most states run their systems.
At The Civics Center, we’ve made it our mission to change that. And thanks to you, we’re doing it.
We’ve trained thousands of students and educators in running high school-based registration drives. We’ve distributed toolkits and hosted organizing workshops nationwide. And we’ve built a data infrastructure that not only measures impact and tracks progress — it proves what’s possible.
I’ll be talking about all of this and more during the livestream — including how youth voter registration connects to larger challenges like disinformation, authoritarianism, and democratic resilience.
